    It is a nice logo!
There are classical disciplines, dealing with the interpretation the parts of pictures, which have symbolic meanings. One is the heraldic studies, interprets the meanings of the old heraldic symbols. The general terms in the history of arts is the iconography of this discipline "which studies the identification, description, and the interpretation of the content of images".
I havenot too much knowledge in this discipline, but I will try to explain my (mis)interpretation the parts of this new icon:
    - the globe on the left up side means, we are in Europe, but would like to extend our "overview" in global scale
    - the three lightning strikes on the background, put togethere with a picture editor, means we would like to use the advances computer tools (not only picture editors) to collect data from this huge natural phenomens, and we would like to present the results in nice forms on pictures and maps...
    - the night view of a city means we see/investigate this lightning phenomens from a point of view of the citizens, living in highly populated regions...
    - linux icon means, all this tools and methods governed by the spirits of the open source community (but the majority of our participants dont use linux at all)
    - the text on botton refferes to our central server, which produce continuously the unique results of our networks, the actual lightnings data, the geographic configurations of the thunderstorm fronts, moving accross the European continent.

Ok, If somebody have some additional meanings, or different meanings, or another interpretations, I would be happy to read it.
    best:
    t.janos

    Egon,

I am new for this project, so I still wonder if I should.....but I have few comments:

    - Penguin is Linux logo and I think using it with this project is not justified. That would be OK for me, if 100% applications at server and client side would run it, but unfortunately majority of participants is using Windows. As for Open Source spirit - it has its own distinguishable logo, but it could be used to mark software licensed under an OSI Approved License. I do not know how does it match this project frame.

    - Globe inside blue box on the left could be modified per participant country. I mean the background could be at participant's National colors. That would be interesting and maybe encourage members from other country to join?

    - If logo would be available in different sizes, then with middle size we could put some additional info, like station number for example. Then it could be also used as very nice personal signature.

    Just my two cents...

    Regards,
    Aleksander

    Hi folk,

I conform to all comments, but please overestimate any details, it is not as profound as you suppose.
