Hallo Andreas,

HILDE-SERVER:/usr/local/bin# ./blitzortung-info /var/www/weatheroffice/toa /toa
/usr/local/bin/blitzortung-statistics:34: DeprecationWarning: raising a string exception is deprecated
raise "no file for date"
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/local/bin/blitzortung-statistics", line 186, in <module>
histogram = Histogram(files, timeInterval)
File "/usr/local/bin/blitzortung-statistics", line 142, in __init__
for line in self.get():
File "/usr/local/bin/blitzortung-statistics", line 120, in get
rawFile = files.get(start.date())
File "/usr/local/bin/blitzortung-statistics", line 34, in get
raise "no file for date"
no file for date

Andreas

Hello, to all, involved in this topic,
My questions are here, connected to the new linux tracker.

If I understand well, there are two alternative, to move to the new version of tracker and send data to the new server:
1. Egon developed the new TOA_tracker, version 17c.
In the head text of this topic Egon explained the new modifications, relavant to the most cases.
From this description not clear for me, what is the situation on the "old" PCB: I use the PCB version 4.x and the Firmware version 10.

Egon said:
Is it support my hw config or not? I dont know, is it a solution to reprograming the atmega with the new firmware? If yes, I will try it. Or need some modification on the panel, or both? Or only the correct solultion to buy a new hw?

2. Andreas developed a new upload/tracker version, specifically run on debian linux only.
I am interest to run it, but I regularly use desktop running not debian based linux. My first attention was to examine the possibility to compile Andreas,s code on the NSLU2 box, which have Debian. Shortly it become clear, this compilation is not possible, because the hw limitations of this box. I havenot yet installed cross tools to make this compilation for the NSLU2.
I have an installed latest ubuntu too, but I dont plan to start a second desktop machine to serve as a detector upload machine. I know, to complile and install the Andres,s code on it havenot to much problems.

So: a little clarification would be welcome....
thanks and best wishes:
Janos

Hi Janos,

I have lost control about the Firmware for the old PCBs without the A/D-converter, and thus also for the corresponding tracker programs. I am currently on vacation till monday, then I will try to modify the tracker Ver. 17 such that it will also run with the old Firmware 10.

Regards,
Egon

Janos,

Have you thought about using VMware Player to create a development environment? My Linux client runs on an old HP/Compaq thin client. I am using Tiny Core Linux on that, and I set up Tiny Core Linux in VMware to compile code for the thin client. I am now running Egon's linux tracker code and also a NTP time server synchronised to the 1PPS pulses. You could set up a basic Debian development environment under VMware, and then set up CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS as environment variables with the right options for generating NSLU2 code.

regards,

John

Dear Egon,
thank you for your letter about the solutions on the different situations.
And sorry now for my new questions come up again.
You wrote notes about the "old" PCB, whitout A/D converters. Is it exists such version? I have the PCB 4.x and ver 3.0, 2008, and it has 2 A/D converters, from Analog Devices, AD7813. Are there one or more versions?
The second question connected to the proposed tracker software.
I downloaded it from here, as you mensioned:

and compared it to my running version, it seems, it is the same.
It has this part, about the server,s IP address:
-------------

#define VERSION "LinuxTracker Ver. 10.3"
#define SLEEP_TIME_SEC 20
#define STRIKES_SERVER_IP "81.169.143.239"
#define STRIKE_SERVER_PORT 8308

-------------
But I see in the tracker_Linux_17.c code, that the new server name and IP address is different:

-------------
#define VERSION "LinuxTracker Ver. 17.0" // version string send to server
#define SLEEP_TIME_SEC 20 // time interval for sending data
//#define STRIKES_SERVER_ADDR "85.214.99.132" // server address
#define STRIKES_SERVER_ADDR "rechenserver.de" // server address
#define STRIKE_SERVER_PORT 8308 // server port

So: the second question is: what can I compile? the tracker_toa_4.cc code in original form, or change with the new IP address?

Dear John,
thank you for your proposed, interesting setup with VMware. But I think, first I would like to try a simple, "native" solution, to complile the tracker_toa code on the armel CPU. I think, my NSLU2 will realize this task, as it was succesfull with the previous version of this software.
Ofcoures I am interest to know, study and test another solutions too.

best:
Janos

Hallo Egon!
Was sind die "Enhancements" der neuen Firmware?
Läuft bei mir bereits völlig unauffällig!

Hi Janos,

you are right, I am completely confused. Here are my answers.

1.) You are right, there is no hardware in operation without A/D-converters. This was PCB 2 which is today not used by anyone.
2.) The ATMega 644 of all boards can run firmware ver. 23 without any problems. It is recommendet to update the old controller, but it is not necessary.
3.) The linux tracker programm ver. 17 is for firmware ver. 23.
4.) I have no new linux tracker program for the very old firmware versions. The old one will not work with the new server, also if the server address is changed into "rechenserver.de".
5.) I dont want to write a tracker for the old hardware that sends the data to the new server. This will be necessary for at most three stations. For these stations i will send new controllers with firmware ver. 23. This is much easier for me and saves my time.

Regards,
Egon

@H.

Dear Egon,
thank you for the clarifications.
Now it is clear the options for me:
- find a solution to upgrade the firmware to ver. 23 and use the tracker ver. 17
- with the updraded firmware use the Andreas,s debian tracker in bin version on my NSLU2
- buy a new board, and use , as usual at the majority.
Sorry for this troubles, it is clear, we are the small minority in our communty with this problems...
best:
Janos

Hallo,

Hi,

I have now adapted the Linux Tracker Ver. 17 such that it works also with all the older firmware versions. If you are working with Firmware Ver. <= 10 you need to be comment out one line at the begining of the source code. All other versions will automatically be recognized.

Greetings and much fun,
