    Hallo zusammen!

    Danke schonmal!!!

    Gruß Andi

    Grüße aus Österreich!

There should be no problem building it inside the PC
If the pre-amp are more than few meters away, use a ferrit core on the RJ45 cable to prevent noise - both ways :)
May be the print board should be chassis grounded ( You can solder a short lead on RJ45 metal house - mountet under a screw in the chassis. )

    Richo,
maybe you are right, there is no problem, if you insert your toa board inside the desktop computer case, with a good grounding. But- connected to this problems - I remember to my previous investigations about the special, local noises. I summarizes this my notes on this page:

The third one is an interesting phenomen in this relation: I detected this low frequency noise about 6-7 meter distances, from another room, come up from another computer,s power unit. After that I didnot deal with it more deaply, I changed this power unit, to make a little simple the life...
Another experiences is here: to test sometimes the "situation" I use an old, chinese-made gas burner as a small "ligthning simulator". If I start it it generate small strikes, each are 2-3 mm long. If I use this device 1-2 m distance from my toa board, it collect this semi-lightning impulses continuously. Maybe in the computer motherboard case there arenot such effects, but we can calculate the electromagnetic noises in many frequency bands around our motherboard and other units.
So, this problem go to the more general problems, we faced time to time with our network, this is the "handling" of the local noise problems.
Maybe you remember, when we, you, and myself joined this linghning detector network, were online far fewer sensors stations, as nowedays, and the server software, runing that time was successful to separate the local noises and the data, generated this sensors and loaded up. But now the situation is different, sometimes you can see, there are in every time, when exists more then 5-6 stations, where the local noises continuously generate "data", and the server side software has choises in every seconds to process "possible" lightning data" comes from more that enough (5,6) stations.
To improve this situation, some month ego, Egon build into the server a "brute force" filter, if any station reach a predefined limit, uploading data in a time period, it will be temporaly close out from the possible data sources.
Some weeks ago Egons started to implement another new idea into the "sensor side" software, this is the filter in the Linux tracker, version 20. But this is a "strong tool", and need more carefull tests, specially in the heavy lightning season.. I think.
Consequently it is a good idea to thnink about the "best parctices" about our places, and built of our sensor stations, to take more attentions to the sources of the possible local noises.
best, and have a Merry Christmas:

I have read about your problems, and your investigation.

If you make an antenna like this:
    Antennenfragen
and make your connections like this:
    ; ;
I am shure the nearby noise from the PC are non-existing :o)

I am using a 30m long cable between the pre-amp and the controller.

    Congratulations!
Your solutions like a very professional solution against the noises.
I must tell you, I dont able to follow this lines and your proposed trikks with ferrit rings. I havenot a qiuet nice place on the roof for a non-waterproof antenna, and far, min 30 m far from my noisy computers and other houshold devices.
I live in the center of the city in an old house, with some extra metal structures, pipes for rain-waters, another to protect the corridores, another to keep a small glass cover/roof, nearby different cables to control the gate, and serves the program distributions of different cabel-tv companies, and soo. I have only limited choises to find an acceptable place for my antenna and devices. It is shure, I will try the proposed small ferrit bounds, and if I have chance I will make a small comparison its effects to the noise protections.
But I think this is only one side of local noise protections. If this noises enough strong to reach the antenna and the preamplifier stages of our sensors, this solutions not effective against this noises. I refer to my explored 3 type of local noises, there are min 2. which falls into this types.

So: I try to learn some usefull solutions from your nice practice, but my condition is a little limited.
By the way, I like your picture, about the wind direction measure device, made from empty Nivea flacons. Your web page is very reach with informations, when I was full of its offers, I found this nice picture, for relax.

You should try “my” coax-antenna. It is pure magnetic ( shielded ).
Look at the response of your pre-amp, may be you should decrease the frequency response ?
You can see my calculations here of the PCB5 board.

    Hi Richo,

your "coax-antenna" is really nice and innovative. It would be a great pleasure for me to include this antenna type in the documentation of Blitzortung.org, if you agree. Can I also use the pictures of your antenna? I will of course appreciate your authorship of the construction.

    Regards,
    Egon

    Hi Egon
It´s not my idea using coax in a loop construction - may be for LF-use.
You are welcome to use my pictures as you like, and I need no credit. :o)

I am working on two other antenna projects - a loop with 65 turns, diameter 180cm - an amplifier with near zero Ohm input impedanze ( no resonance point, and a frequency responce from 0,1 Hz to more than 700 KHz.
    A dipol antenna 2 x 95cm diameter 11cm - a very high impedance amplifier ( 2x 222 Gohm )

Both are a part of a bigger LF-receiver project, where outputs are taken to the ToA-part. (with respect to data near your pre-amp )
I have maked different filters with same group-delay as yours, but at better frequence responce and better step-responce
    I am (was) a Radio-Professional :) but also a Radio-Amatuer (OZ1RA), so I have the right to make experiments :)

Where I previously spent a lot of time behind the scope, I now modelling the circuits, and only makes control with my instruments.

    UPS :) not 222 Gohm but 222 Mohm - anyway, it´s high :)
